Of course, we all have those days when there's just not enough time to prepare a home-cooked meal from scratch. While other days, we're proud to say we've put in the effort to create a dish fit for a feast. But when it comes to time spent in the kitchen, it turns out that the U.S. is only average.

A recent study by market research institute Gfk surveyed over 27,000 respondents ages 15 to 60+ in 22 countries to learn more about their cooking habits. While the U.S. fell in the middle—ranking 12th with an average of 5.9 hours of cooking per week—we scored high in other areas. According to the study, 35 percent of U.S. respondents reported that they possess great knowledge about food and cooking (versus the global average of 29 percent). Meanwhile, 37 percent consider themselves "really passionate" about cooking, compared to the international average of 32 percent.
