Having a cramped, dark, dungeon-like laundry room is no way to do laundry—to have any chance of taking even the smallest amount of joy in this mundane task, you're going to need space, storage, light—and maybe some subway tile and a barn door.
If you're looking for laundry room inspiration, look no further than this dramatic transformation by blogger Jenna Sue, from Jenna Sue Design, who shows us that we can transform even the most dingy, awkward room into the fully functional laundry room of our dreams. Jenna was able to turn a storage room into a stunning farmhouse-style laundry space that now features a custom butcher block folding table, a farmhouse sink, and a rustic sliding barn door, among other country decor elements.

But turning the basement storage room into her dream laundry room took careful planning, a process she outlines on her blog.
The first step toward making the awkward layout work? Removing everything from the room— demo day included excavating the floors, extending the walls to create storage space and removing the HVAC system. In its place went new storage spaces, built-ins for the appliances and shelves for storage.
Of course, redoing an entire room from scratch is costly, so Jenna recommends doing some of the work yourself, if you can. The DIY projects she took on included making shelves from reclaimed wood and tiling the floor, which kept the budget in check.
