Impressive redesigns don't have to be costly, as this amazing makeover proves.
Home renter "ElizaB" recently revealed her jaw-dropping kitchen transformation on Imgur. The finished result is the product of $100 and two weekends of labor. While it doesn't feature high-end appliances or luxurious materials, it is a dramatic improvement from the dull, dreary, and vinyl-covered kitchen that came with her apartment.
In the post, she openly explained that she did not get permission from her landlord before starting the project, and that she does not care about getting her security deposit back. What she did care about was creating a clean and beautiful space to prepare food—and that's exactly what she did.

Before painting the walls and cabinets, ElizaB scrubbed and sanitized the kitchen, which lacked an extractor fan, causing years of food and grime to collect on all the surfaces. She then prepped the surfaces that needed paint by sanding them. She used Waterscape by Sherwin Williams to perk up the walls and Sherwin Williams Pro-Classic in Snowbound to refresh the cabinets.
When it came to flooring, Eliza didn't want to pay more than $1 per square foot, so she used the "Woodland Oak" vinyl planks from Lowe's Style Selections line. She took the inexpensive planks home, cut them to the right size, and installed them in a gorgeous herringbone pattern.
She admits that she skipped a few steps during the renovation. For example, she did not apply grain filler to the cabinets. She also used brown caulk to fill in some of the spaces between the floor planks, but in the end, she was happy with the results. "It's not perfect, but it's better," she wrote.
